Olivarez College Basic Education Department proved its sporting excellence after nabbing the overall championship title in the Private Schools Association of Paranaque (PSAP) Palaro 2019 which formally concluded with closing and awarding ceremonies on October 5, 2019 at the newly inaugurated Ayala Mall in ParaƱaque City.
Olivarez College got an overall 58 medal tally, with 31 gold, 14 silver and 13 bronze medals. Coach James Borres of athletes produced the highest number of medals amongst other sports competitions. Champion in athletics with 20 golds, 5 silvers and 4 bronzes; cheerdance, 1 gold; volleyball, 2 golds; table tennis, 1 gold, 3 silvers and 1 bronze; chess, 1 gold, 3 silvers, and 2 bronzes; taekwondo, 4 golds, 3 silvers, and 1 bronze; swimming, 1 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronzes; basketball, 1 silver; and sepak takraw, with 1 gold.
Olivarez College snatched the championship title to the long time defending champion Manressa School with 33 medal tally while St. Paul College of ParaƱaque hitched in second place with 34 medal tally.
The closing and awarding ceremonies were organized by the PSAP Board of Directors headed by their President Sister Bernadette Padawel and graced by Paranaque 1st District Representative, Hon. Eric L. Olivarez.
In her closing speech Sister Bernadette congratulated the winners, coaches and trainers who helped their student athletes excel and practice the spirit of sportsmanship. Likewise, she thanked Olivarez College represented by the school principal, Dr. Alfredo Bandong for hosting the opening and closing ceremonies of PSAP Palaro 2019.
